Future of Canadian Farming – Films and Discussion (click here for more info)
In a changing climate, who will grow our food? Join National Farmers Union President Jenn Pfenning for an engaging evening of short films and discussion looking at the challenges and opportunities for Canadian farmers. The event is part of the World Community Film Series and will be held in the Stan Hagen Theatre at North Island College on Sunday May 5 th at 7 pm.
Pfenning is a family owner of Pfenning’s Organic Farm in New Hamburg, Ontario. She enjoys working alongside local and migrant workers to produce food that serves her passion for healthy living, food justice and strong community.
Depth of Field: Films About Farming is a series of short documentaries produced and presented by the National Farmers Union and March Forth Creative. The films showcase Canadian farmers and farm workers, and their sustainable farming practices on and off the land. Seed saving, building healthy soils, and working for social justice are some of the issues farmers are incorporating into their practices.
As farming unrest rises globally, the National Farmers Union’s Depth of Field screenings provide an opportunity to connect with the local community, meet farmers and to understand and dissect the complexities of farming in Canada. Together we’ll discuss what solutions are needed to create a sustainable and just food system for growers and
eaters alike.
Admission is by donation (optional). Everyone is welcome. FMI: Janet (250 334-1840)
