Film Series
Film Screening: Unarchived – Wednesday Oct 4th – 7pm
Whose stories are left out of historical archives? It has been said that history is written by the winners. World Community’s first film of the fall series, Unarchived (84 min) explores those left out of history in BC. All are welcome to watch this film together in the Stan Hagen Theatre at North Island College, Courtenay on Wednesday, October 4 at 7pm.
In community archives across British Columbia, local knowledge keepers are hand-fashioning a more inclusive history. Through a collage of personal interviews, archival footage and deeply rooted memories, the past, present and future come together, fighting for a space where everyone is seen and everyone belongs. History is what we all make of it.
Programmer Janet Fairbanks notes “This is a rich film which includes stories about the South Asian community in Paldi, near Duncan which I was not aware of”. Local history from Cumberland, LGBTQ+ stories and moving Indigenous stories are also shared. As Kwakwaka’wakw artist Lou-ann Neel says “The time of reckoning has come.”
Admission is by donation.
