“Just Desserts” is an evening of film and discussion about the impact our local investment decisions have around the world. Defensora (40 min.), is a film about indigenous people in Guatemala who are seeking justice in Canadian courts for human rights violations by a subsidiary of a Canadian mining company. Mine: Story of a Sacred Mountain is a short film that documents successful resistance by indigenous people. Discussion with Tara Scurr, Amnesty International Business and Human Rights Campaigner and Tony Edwards of Ethic Invest, will present information about how Canadian investment is involved in human rights violations around the world and what individuals can do if they want to make a change. Just Desserts, a collaboration between CV Amnesty and World Community.
