World Community Bikes

Through a team of volunteers, we collect and restore second-hand bicycles.

To donate a bicycle or for more info contact gvsherr@telus.net

Reconditioned bicycles are  made available to local groups such as the Comox Valley Transition Society, Dawn to Dawn, and Canada World Youth.  We are always on the lookout for more bikes, parts and accessories (especially tires, fenders, helmets, lights and locks).

World Community Bikes is in need of volunteer bicycle mechanics who are able to give any amount of time.  As well, donations of unwanted bikes are being solicited.  Since May 2009, the group has partnered with The Salvation Army and other Comox Valley social agencies to provide bicycles to adults in need of transportation.  To date, almost 200 bikes have been distributed to those who cannot afford other means of transport.  Some others have been sold in order to fund the purchase of parts, including fenders and carriers.

Please phone Valerie or Gordon at (250) 337-5419  or email gvsherr@telus.net to donate your unwanted bikes or your skills.

DID YOU KNOW??….Every year in North America, we purchase 15 – 20 million new bicycles, and it is estimated that we discard 10 million used bikes – most of which are still in working order.
